Strategy
Glasgow has seen remarkable economic growth and development in recent years, but the greatest opportunities for economically transforming the city still lie ahead. The ambitious new economic development strategy for the city “A Step Change for Glasgow” aims to realise these opportunities over the next ten years. It calls for ‘step change' in key areas of opportunity and need such as education and enterprise – not incremental progress but dramatic growth surpassing the city’s current growth trajectory.
Launched in 2006, the strategy and its associated vision, step change themes, supporting themes and operational themes were developed by Glasgow Economic Forum, the partnership body charged with overseeing economic regeneration and development in the city. It has since been overwhelmingly endorsed by public, private and voluntary sector partners.
In 2007, the second phase of the strategy was unveiled for consultation “Action Plan: A Step Change for Glasgow”. This evolving document outlines the 94 activities Glasgow Economic Forum proposes to pursue over the next 5 years to achieve ‘step change’.
Following the consultation, "A Step Change for Glasgow: Action Plan to 2013" was published in November 2008. This action plan, a key part of the strategy, sets out economic development activities for the city. Glasgow Economic Forum hope that this plan will be of immediate practical use to investors and ensure Glasgow's economic resources stay focused on the most important strategic issues.
